The fit and finish of the tracer is good but not particularly amazing. It's very plasticy, and gives me the feeling that one drop to the floor would be the end of it. The included fuse adapters are nice and I think they're a useful addition to the kit. I found that the three sensitivity levels of the tracer give a good variety. On the lowest level, the tip has to be pretty much right up against the wire. On the middle level, I found it will detect about 1-2cm away. On the most sensitive level, it would detect up to about 4-5cm away. The granularity is good enough to give you a broad search to start with, and then hone in on exactly the wire you want. For the price ($55.64CAD at time of review), I think the tool is pretty good. My only real complaint is how fragile it feels. For a DIYer at home, I'd say it's a good choice, but for shop use, I'd look for something a better.

i picked this up because chasing electrical gremlins in a vehicle without the right tool is a special kind of miserable... connect the transmitter to the circuit, run the receiver along the wire, and it tells you exactly where the signal drops or spikes so you stop pulling dash panels for no reason. works on shorts and opens both which covers most of the frustrating stuff. the visual and audio feedback together make it pretty easy to follow even in a tight engine bay. the plastic feels pretty cheap and the build quality shows... if you're a casual diy guy who pulls it out a few times a year it'll probably serve you fine, but if you're turning wrenches regularly and putting real miles on your tools this one might fall short of what you're expecting.

My son just purchased an 01' project car. It runs and drives, but he wants to upgrade, and bells and whistles.
I hope this tool can help him. It has a standard variety of fuse wires.
The alligator clamps are tight and well made.
The housing for the tools is a cheap plastic, and you need both tools plus the fuse wire to work it, however it comes in a cardboard box. Which, I worry how long it'll last in a box.
I'm my experience in the trunk it'll be everywhere, I just wish it had a little nicer case for the price.
It is versatile with the 4 cords.
I did try to make the beeps. I'm in a quieter room, I'm not sure what outside road noise may do to the beeps.
I'm happy it comes with batteries, I'll never remember 9v. (Because I'm not using this on a on a regular daily basis, I removed the batteries, to help prevent corrosion or whatever else) But all in all 4 stars. Would be better in some type of case or bag. It does function as promised

Sometimes, there is so much background noise in the shop that it is difficult to rely on audio strength variations, especially the older you get because your hearing tends to degrade to some frequencies. Just as importantly, with this tool you can also easily check for both opens and shorts. The flexible voltage source range makes it very versatile and available to use on many different types of vehicles, from big rigs to golf carts to motor cycles. I think it has it uses, but I was just let down because every time I hooked it up to my skid steer to run down a wire from my fuse panel. The machine was just sucking up the signal as I was trying to find broken wires. I wouldn’t get any signal more than about 6 inches into the wire because apparently the grounds I just sucked the signal out but if you have wires in, you’re just trying to figure out where they run or what they are.
